Giving your clients the highest level of your expertise means getting nosy.
This process begins with a “discovery session”, which is exactly what it sounds like – an opportunity for you to discover what your potential client needs without needing to read their mind.
Discovery is a series of questions you can ask the client to better understand who they are and the challenges they’re facing, and help them better understand who you are as a the go-to professional in your space.
Every year, thousands (I'm making this up, but it's probably more to be fair) of beautifully crafted proposals are ignored because the consultant didn't take the time to get to know their client.
Building relationships is KEY to winning the gigs you want, and positions you immediately as an expert in your field because you're visibly taking charge.
Also, you can ask the client precisely what they need to see in the proposal to ensure it contains all the key information, making it an easy “yes” when you submit yours.
It's like cheating on the exam, only it's not cheating; it's using your initiative to ensure you give the client what they want and need. It's also showing your client who's boss, so you get the respect, reward, recognition and resources you need to do an incredible job.
I’ve created a solid series of question lists, along with comprehensive guidelines, for you to use next time you sit down with a potential client, putting you in the best possible position to secure the gig.
There are question lists I’ve used in the past to secure big business clients (e.g. Nike, Microsoft and Sony)
There are question lists I’ve used in the past to secure ongoing projects with small businesses, boutique brands and creative agencies.
And finally, there are question lists I’ve used to secure private coaching and consulting work with other solo business owners, such as consultants, coaches, strategists, specialists, and experts.
Now, they’re all yours!

And promise me one thing: That you’ll USE them, mmmmkay??? 😘
